    Grey Vynacote, Holden after thought?

Has anyone had any luck with Grey Vynacote? After asking the painter at work and checking the paint code reference manuals that the painters use it appears that it is no longer available due to certain tinters that are no longer used. Also I am not convinced that it is the correct colour for all the vans. When Big Rob came up to Canberra I had a look in the back of his WB that was painted in Grey Vynacote, but on close inspection where the paint had chipped white paint was visible, yes his van is white and it could have been over spray but the inside of my van dose not have Grey Vynacote and is painted in a slightly off white, this includes inside of the B pillar, cargo floor, wheel arches and side panels with only over spray on the inside of the roof due to having full headlining. Rob's van was fully painted in Grey Vynacote including roof (no full headlining). Has anyone come across this as well? Is the Grey Vynacote a later addition? Was it used for the more COMMERCIAL van as extra protection from scuffing and scratching? Did they change in later models to more industrial finishes to suit tradesmen? Just thought I would throw this out there to see what everyone's thought is on the paint situation.

We checked all the colour charts, PPG, Dulux ect even on the new updated computer set up, but it shows nothing. I am not going to use it as my van doesn't have it but I was just being curious.

Grey Vynacote is an off white colour with a very slight tinge of grey. It is the paint used in the rear of all Sandman panelvans.

Maybe Rob's van has been re-painted? The paint looked more of a texture coat finish than a straight paint. More creamier/grey than off white. I'm going to get the painter to use his paint scanner to see if it can come up with the right colour.

Mine hasn't been repainted, it's as it came when new.

My old Dulon colour mixing book has grey vynacote code in it and it only runs to HJ Holden, so it's not a late model thing. I remember my mates HJ Sandman had it on the floor and walls back when it was new, but I don't think my Dads HQ ute had it in the tray, it was white and the tray was white (I think....).
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Hi Rob, remember how the paint in the back of your van was different to mine? Just trying to work out why there is a difference. I hope to get the inside finished over Christmas now that I've got a new air compressor.

Yeah, that had me stumped too, yours definitely looked like it had never had it anywhere, and for sure under the headliner where it was bare metal.

Mine has grey vynacote over the body colour on the floor, so I'm assuming that the body went through the normal painting process, then the vynacote was applied further on down the line.

I spoke to the original owner on Tuesday and he confirmed that the interior finish is as he received it when new. He put a piece of carpet in the back the day after he got it and it stayed almost scratch-free.

With regard to my Dad's ute having white paint in the tray, it was a Belmont and one of the very first built, as he got it the day that the HQ was released. That was a memorable day..... the HQ looked space-aged compared to a HG, even in Belmont trim. (Dad! Where are the quarter windows!?)
