I think you will mainly have problems with a build up of mud and bull dust inside the chassis rails that hold water to give rust problems. I would just keep an I on that and clean inside the rails regularly.

If you want to warp it then hot dip galvanise it. It won't get inside the chassis anyway. Have you ever seen galvanised pipe with galvanising on the inside?
I have seen six month old land cruisers on a mine site with rusted out chassis. That is an extreme environment.
If you hot dip hollow section the coating does go inside.
Your dipping an object into a tank of liquid.
The galvanizing doesn't choose not to go in there.![]()

No I don't need a sticker package to tell me what I drive!
Yeah works well hey. Assuming you have no air locks or bubbles and the inside.

[QUOTE=wbute;71734]Yeah works well hey. Assuming you have no air locks or bubbles and the inside is clean. Good luck on a Holden chassis that's more or less impossible to get a coating on the inside. Heavy rust needs to removed with an abrasive. Difficult inside a chassis. You then have the chassis dipped into a tank at around 400 degrees and then it's quenched. I imagine there could be structural issues after this.
There is an option of electroplating a galvanised coating. I think you will still run into issues with an unclean surface on the inside of the chassis.
Really you are going to find a quality paint hard to beat. Plus getting paint to stick to galvanising is difficult.
If its lasted 35 years of rough and ready daily use without rusting out, then it should be fine now that it's a collectible and being cared for.
Yeah, or if it's that badly rusted, you probably need a new chassis.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!
Thanks for your thoughts people ,Chassis is in good condition only surface rust.i found a spray gun with a long flexible hose that sprays a wide area designed for inside chassis.i will get it blasted and painted then fill it with rust converter/cavity wax.cheers everyone and merry xmas to all.![]()
