    Question Hz ute

Hi all new on here. I have a 1978 hz ute which I've benn told by some it's a sandman and some its not everything on the compliance plate is pointing towards it being a sandman but it is a 6 cylinder 202 and it has single head lights instead of twin the colour matches hz sandman orange I think they call it tandarine orange but it also has coupe stamped on the plate. It also doesn't have xx7 stamped on it it still has some of the origanal decals down the side but half it's missing so not to sure. The ute is 1500km away from me so I can't just go out and check things for you. My brother has the same model ute but he has a n in his where mine is a m and his doesn't say coupe

Coupe Utility is what HQ-HZ utes were called. There were no 6cyl HZ Sandmans, the 4.2L V8 was made standard with XU3/XX7 prior to the start of HZ production. Apparantly 6cyl HX Sandmans were unsaleable, dealers thought they were standard with V8 like GTS and didn't option a V8 which left duds GMH couldn't sell, so they dropped the 6cyl for HZ.

The colour would be Valencia. The tag details and chassis number are what you need. Anything else could have been changed since the 70's.

Drop a 308/M21 in it and stick a set of Sandman stickers on it and 99.9% of the population will love it and think it's cool. You'll know it's a replica, but that's OK.
An orange HZ ute in good condition is cool regardless of whether it is a Sandman or not. Enjoy it....

Along similar lines, EFI 5 litre and 4L60/E with nice wheels and no stripes. Just as cool.

I've got Chevy drop pipes on her and gts mags but I'm ably to start a full resto but it will look good once Finnish my brother putting serious coin into his and its only a rolling chassis ATM.
