Been looking into the courtesy light thing for 3-4 years now at just about every commercial i see and i am not convinced that its a good way to help ID.
too many utes /vans have them belmont / kingswood / holden.

"All correspondence must bear these numbers"
I'd say that rather than the presence of courtesy lights being something to prove that it is a Sandman, there is probably more value in the lack of courtesy lights proving that a vehicle is definately NOT a Sandman.
yeah, thats the conclusion that i came to as well..

I have a genuine HJ Sandman, and Im the second owner and mine never had courtesy light switches.
Just thought I should post this as I have been a member for a few months now.
HJ will only have them if it was a Kingswood or it was optioned.
when you say courtesy lights, what is it you refer to?
a hz sandman should have the roof light as operated by the push switches in the doorframes, AND footwell lights mounted to the underside of the dash which come on / off with the roof light.
next time im near my van ill grab a part number for the footwell lights
i believe its the footwell lights that is the tell tale sign, as most models had the roof light, but it was only sandman level commercials and premier / stato that had the footwell lights.
correct me if im wrong.

Was speaking to a guy on weekend who reckons that many Brisbane built Sandmans didn’t have the foot well lights but he was adamant that they were fitted on Sandmans built at the other plants. My Brisbane built XX7 HX Sandman ute doesn’t have them and neither does my Adelaide built HZ Sandman ute. I guess they’re like many other tell-tale signs: easily removed and easily installed so they’re really not definitive either way…thoughts anyone?
They are definitely part of the Sandman package in HX and HZ. If they aren't there they have either been removed or it is not a Sandman. This is well documented in many pieces of GMH literature.
My HX van has them, there is no part number on them but they have a orange and a white wire running to them. If they have been added it would be quite noticeable. I have added a couple of photos so you can see what they are like.

Sorry the photos are a bit crap.
Agree with that. It was the one thing that I knew makes a sandman in HX/HZ. They can be added but I think you would be able to spot that.
