I would like to purchase a sandman van . Must be top restoration job. I have been looking for a while now and haven't found anything original enough. Prepared to pay the right money for the right one.

Byron will know, but as the bumper rubber was only an HZ fitment, I can't remember HX's having it in the day, the only Sandman to have a rubber stip in the bumper would be the HZ. I'm pretty sure that the HX model didn't have the rubber but I could be wrong. My HX Sandman Ute definitely won't have one. :-)

Just googled the HX range and it looks like the GTS, LE Monaro, Premier and Statesman had the rubber strip in the HX. The Holden, Kingswood and Sandman did not. You probably could have ordered the strip if you really wanted it!

The rubber strip in the bumper was an option. My mates HJ Sandman (back in '76) had a rubber stripped bumper from new, as did heaps of others on the road.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Option VE5 for both front and rear bumper bar rubbing strip and VF8 for front bumper bar rubbing strip. Starting with HJ, VE8 was only standard on top specification Holden (Premier & LS) and on Statesman. VE8 optional on all other HJ sedan, wagon and coupe. VF8 optional on ute and van and Kingswood ute.
HX GTS got the rubber strip as standard, plus LE. HX Premier and Statesmans carried over as per HJ. Options carried over as per HJ.
By the time HZ came around the only place the rubber strip was actually optional was on ute/van plus Kingswood ute/van as Kingswood SL (sedan/wagon) also got the rubber strip standard. VF8 was deleted as part of the Kingswood delete option A9K on sedan and wagon so these got the naked bar too.
