    HQ80480 = V8 Kingswood Ute
    568 = *Solid Colour -15894 = Burgundy *I.E: Not metallic.
    Trim 30 is long grain Black vinyl. E = Kingswood Trimmings?
    TRANS: M20 = 4 Speed the fact it has nothing in the ENG and AXL is because the running gear is factory standard for the model. 253ci V8 with 3.36:1 diff ratio
    M = Dandenong, Melbourne, so it will NOT have XX7 stamped.
    3/74 is the right build period to be a Sandman.
    8N = Kingswood Ute 80 = GM Australia R = High Compression 253ci V8 D = 1974 J4 = Dandenong 20457 = Serial Number Q = Model Series Code.

    Nothing to say 100% it is a Sandman but all the pointers are good (except the "E" in the trim code) which I feel is probably fine but Blocker seems to think it must be a "B".
    I have a feeling Kingswoods were 30E and Belmonts were 30B.

    I'm not saying your Ute is a Sandman but I'm not discounting it. More points to it being one than not.
    We would need to see photos of the body. Console mount, shifter hole etc.

    I'm interested in how pictures of the console mount or shifter hole could assist in whether it's a Sandman or not.
    Why would they be any different to a Kingswood with floor shift and console?
    Or for that matter, the body?
    Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

    Images can confirm if the body is correct. Tags get swapped.
    If the body is wrong this throws serious doubts about being a Sandman.

    30E is normal black trim for 1974 HQ Kingswood for both bench and buckets.

    You'll never pick whether it is a Sandman or not for ID plates. Your best bet is to clear out between the buckets and take a photo of the tunnel between the seats. The only other indicator will be original paint blackouts. Is the speedo 120 or 140MPH (plus the dual scale metric bits)?

    Inny, standard diff in this case is a 3.08, if it was a 3.36 it'd have GV2 stamped. 3.36 is standard behind 308 in HQ.

    If it is a Sandman it is only the 4th 1885 (Burgundy) one I have recorded and the first Kingswood ute (Sandman or not) in that colour. DO you have the chassis number? Will be close to DHQ20000M but I can't narrow it down much more as I don't have many Dandenong HQ's from this time recorded.

    Bargain if it is a Sandman and the original body. If it was a 308 i'd be keen. That is the Sandman to own in the end, a HQ Kingswood Sandman with L31 engine, or if vans float your boat a Belmont Sandman van with L31 engine.

    I've moved this thread to the HELP is it a Sandman thread instead of Forum Rules.

    As this FleBay potential Sandman ute linked above is in Adelaide I can have a look at it for you.

    My records show 253 4 Speed V8 diff ratio 3.36:1 as Standard and 3.55:1 as Performance. 3.08:1 for 3 Speed manual. If it was optioned to 3.08:1 the plate should be stamped GU4.
    Either way I did my best with what I had when I answered.

    I'm glad you agree 30E is Black Kingswood and doesn't exclude it from being a Sandman. Blocker needs to revise the website to allow HQ Kingswood Ute's to have 30E and NOT exclusive to 30B (which a Kingswood would never had). I'd like to know if 30E is '74 Kingswood exclusive?
