Appart from engine number qt and 11qt what are the differences in engines? What problems could i encounter by putting an 11qt engine in my car with pre pollution and a neoprene rear main seal?

ADR27A is all external stuff other than the heads so as long as you use the heads and all the pollution equipment it shouldn't be an issue.
For the same timeframe build the 11QT and QT engines are the same. But from HJ the piston dish decreased to increase compression from 9.0:1 to 9.7:1 making the HJ a significantly more powerful engine, so much so that there was no longer any need for the 350 and 400 proposed for HJ espeially with a dual exhaust system.
Then ADR27A hit in HX and the manifold fitted plus the tuning of the engine basically killed it. People knew this from the HJ to HX transition, but imagine having test drove an LX SLR or SS with the HJ engine which with its proper 2" twin system and light weight was a very fast car (as quick as or quicker than a stock L34), so you ordered one. Then this puking, gutless post 6/76 one turns up. You'd be spitting chips!
the only problems i can see you having is taking the skin off your knuckles, having a sore back, high blood pressure and a sore foot when you kick it
Which is why most HX V8's now have Edlebrock manifolds, Holley carbs, extractors and twin system fitted with some carefully hidden blocking of pollution hoses.
My HX Monaro had that exact set up on it when I bought it, and funnily enough so does the HJ Sandman I just bought.
The engine in the HJ is an IIQT HQ Statesman engine that has GEM engine rebuilt stickers on it. Appears it was a replacement engine early in the cars life..... Radiator was reconditioned in Mt Isa in 1978 and the Gem engine was fitted in Mt Isa so the original engine was probably cooked and cracked the block.

You don't need to block any pollution hoses especially on manual cars as they don't have an EGR valve. The only pollution equipment bypass (apart from changing the carby's setup and assuming you've already fitted extractors and a decent exhaust thus removing the flap in the exhaust) that gives you any real change is to defeat the vacuum advance control stuff. The rest is just capturing of fuel evaporation into the canister.
Im in 2 minds what to do. being in nsw and the car eventually needing a blue slip i think pollution setup might have to be fitted. To clarify a 11qt and qt block is the same, heads can be pollution or not and a pre 1976 engine would be the way to go.
What model is your Van? That is the important question that needs answering.
Hx 2/77 compliance l31 but has 253 in it currently
