Hi Dave. im Australian and decided to export aussy cars from here to the states in early 1985. After talking with Don last night a few things came back to me. I sold the sandman and the hj showvan to a collector/dealer in West Virginia around September 1985 for $5000 the pair as I had to go back to L A buy cars and load them, and get out of the states in a hurry. I had already been given two visa emergency extensions and had no time left to stay and get the right money for the cars. Why export to USA you wonder? Import duty to Aus was at the time 148%, import duty going to the states 2.5%. also good exchange rate at the time.
Should look like this....

So Don, are you an Aussie ex-pat or a Yank into cars with an Aussie Sandman?
After reading http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/letter I'm guessing the latter?
Love to know how and why your Sandman ended up in the States?
The paint job is early '90's with graphics like that.
Don thank you for your reply and welcome. I hope you understand my cautiousness about the post after a spate of hacking and spammers on our site in the past few months having someone so unique to comment on the forum.
A genuine Sandman and in the USA is definitely a first for us. As the previous people have posted, Greg from Classic OZWreck is your man for parts and shipping - http://www.classicozwreck.com.au/
Do you have any history on the van and how it came into your possession?
I did find some papers in the glove box from the owner who owned it before the gentleman that I purchased it from. He is not far from me, I just need to try and make contact with him to try and get some information as to how in the world the car got here. I'll let you know what I come up with.
I was able to contact the gentleman who's name appeared on some paperwork in the glove box. He purchased the car from a gentleman in West Virginia but had no idea who he was. He was told that the car was shipped to the United States for advertising but that was the extent of what he knew. Not much to go on!
I paid $5000.00, motor was out of it and torn apart.
