Right you are... still no need to tell him that hes ruining HIS ride
Its not a personal attack. I would treat everyone else the same. I just expect courtesy ....end of story.
Anyway.......
Cool to see one in the U.S.
Rust will be the biggest issue as is the case here. No real way of getting panels to cut up over there. So as long as you have a good panel and paint person the rest should be as easy as restoring an American car.
Plus.... If you stick with the 308 you get the nice Aussie crackle that chevs don't seem to have. Set of hotdogs on it and you will turn a lot of heads.

Seems to me Ivan because your building a modified Sandman and I don't agree with modifying rare models that you have taken this personally.
I absolutely agree with modifying. I have said so many, many times. I don't agree with with modifying desirable versions however.
If it's a low optioned basket case with the wrong chassis or body etc. I'm all for modifying. But if you have a higher spec car with good numbers my opinion is for it to be original.
In this case Don has a desirable version of a Sandman in the USA. Factory White with Black Trim along with 308, 4 Slot. Doing mods to this Sandman Van in my eyes (not solely either) is ruining a good factory spec car.
I personally feel this would make a greater impact on people if left original. Not to mention it's long term value.
I certainly don't need you telling or reprimanding me on how to phrase a sentence or reply. Nor telling me and anyone else who cares to listen that you think I'm wrong, unfriendly or got out of the wrong side of the bed. Because absolutely none of that is true! But here is a peace flower anyway![]()
Whats so desirable about a white van with a 308 4 speed big deal i bet they were dime a dozen years ago most of them would have had a colour change
cant beat a HZ Valencia orange 308 turbo 400 now they are rare![]()
Reeason I suggested it is 350SBC and TH400 will be cheap and easy to get in the US. More a matter of convenience for Don than anything else. I reckon he'll buy a good 350 and TH400 for what it'll cost him inc freight for external accessories and gaskets to fit the 308 (water pump, fuel pump, dizzy cap and rotor, etc). Then he has to buy the rebuild kit for the 308 and 4spd, which for everything will be like $1500US inc freight. A complete rebuild kit for a 350 Chev in the US with cam, and everything is like $300 (example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-1980-BU...#ht_1313wt_896).
Over her i'd agree that keeping an original engined 308 Sandman together is probably a good idea, but over there not so.
Wow a Sandman in the states, I always wanted to do that .... So why a Sandman?
I understand where HK is coming from, and a very reasonable option, but being a rare vehicle in the States I think saying it has the original Aussie 308 in it is a far more interesting converstation piece than the 350 or LS motors. But again just my opinion and it all depends on your finances and essentially what the van will be used for.
Again this is a very cool situation and as others have said I would love to see the progress and direction the van takes.
