Dons opening statement was that he is starting a complete restoration of his Sandman - not too much more to say really. There are plenty of great people on this site that will surely help him achieve his goal of an Aussie classic, however long it takes. Good luck Don, keep the pictures coming as you go through the restoration.
Nearly on the Road
I think he bought the adapter before he contacted the forum so now he has some contacts and idea of what he has. Maybe he will rebuild it to original, be a bit harder but their dollar is back up so won't be that dear. An engine is the same all over - so to recon and rebuild is no biggy. Don't worry it could've blown an engine before it left here and fitted with a 253 for all we know so check the engine no. and chassis no. First as we all know plates could've been changed years back before it went then it's the same as it is here just a neat old van paint it and do what ya want in the end it's his to do it anyway

Hi Don good luck with the resto if you decide to go original. More then happy to trade some engine and gearbox parts, trim etc if you get me a good complete muncie gearbox, you know just putting that out there.
i know of 2 sandman vans that were taken to america in the 80s...where they are no idea?
Geeeeeeepers .....Don you still there ? Good luck with the restoration, restore the body back to original ... drop in your own running gear to suit yourself , but make sure you keep the original running gear for the van .
goodluck Don. why not run a 350 / Muncie 4 speed?, just a thought... (same hole in floor, crossmember and tailshaft from memory? )
Guys have run small block chev and the holden M21 4 speed over here at times but tearing a tooth off first gear is common after punishment. but it will hold up if you look after it.
maybe keep the holden 308 on an engine stand in your shed as a talking point over beers..

Hi guys, still here! Project is going well, I just got the body pulled last weekend and have it mounted to the rotisserie so it is easier to work on. I stripped most of the paint with chemical on the straight panels, going to take it to a media blaster to get the rest of the paint removed. Still undecided on the motor, we have lots of options here for motors and transmissions! We'll hold onto all of the original motor and transmission parts if we decide to go with a modern motor so it can always go back to original. I'm not one for "hacking" things up and destroying them! What is the best shop manual you guys can recommend that would have wiring schematics and assembly help? I have taken hundreds of photos and documented everything as I tore the car apart but I wouild still like some good literature for the reassembly.
An old holden gregorys manual would be good info dont know if you can get it on hard disc
pretty sure you can someone here will guide you which is best
