    If you want to comply, want it to have decent perfromance and don't mind if it isn't 100% stock then do this:

    Any red 308 QT block (you can accidentally paint over the 11, it was added at the assembly plant anyway and wasn't stamped with the rest of the number).
    Any red heads, or blue or black heads if you like.
    KC manifold, or Edelbrock Performer. KC looks more original as it is a copy of the blue motor HDT manifold.
    Blue quadrajet built to suit the engine.
    Blue/Black HEI dizzy and coil with points cap and XD/E Falcon rotor.
    Run an original viscous fan and shroud or if you like a good set of thermo fans.

    Use whatever exhaust and cam you can to be legal noise wise. Hook up all pollution equipment, blank off the EGR plate (manual 308's have this). If you use extractors I like to weld on a little bit of pipe on the passenger side so the heat riser can be hooked up to the aircleaner to look stock, but put a ball bearing in the vacuum control line for the valve in the snorkel. You can make the original auto choke work off the manifold or use an electric conversion.

    not sure about nsw, but vicroads seem to have no idea, my Wb had a an RPM engine fitted about 10 years ago, i checked the numbers on the block and it appears to be a 1977 block with all the Wb original pollution fixtures in place and painted the original blue colour, vicroads couldnt careless about engine numbers as long as it looks like all the pollution gear is in place for that particular year model.
