Most factory fuel flaps that are remote control use a cable but several common cars out there use electric devices to release the flap, but they are not electric motors.

EA-EL Fords use a solenoid similar to Commodore boot release & VE Commodore use a door lock type solenoid to unlock the flap.

Not sure if i sound vague, i've just landed in Glasgow for work and got the usual jet lag issue.
No probs Damien, I had wondered if my post would come across a fraction harsh and pouring cold water on your design ideas, so it's good to know you are still formulating!

I hear its been raining in Glasgow? (LOL)

But if you wanted to do the LPG thing, the number plate suggestion isnt a bad one I reckon, but it's not quite as smooth as a concept as your original was.

    Keep thinking, it'll come.

Why not. Here's my two bobs worth.

I work for an oil company and we have strict rules about stuff like this.
a, static is usually the problem.
b, mobiles DO have the energy inside them to ignite petrol. The easiest way to get this energy is to drop and break your phone.
If it's in your pocket, or in the car, you dont have the risk.

I was interested to notice the other day that the fuel flap on the Astra locks when the car is locked. I've not noticed before, as the car is usually open with the keys in it or nearby...

Does the same with our FG Falcon. Unlock the doors and you can unlatch the fuel filler flap.

Well, I've decided to forge ahead with fuel filling behind the panel van tail light (my panel beater called me pig headed) and just thought to update this thread. I've mapped out a plan for where to run the fuel line using 50mm PVC piping and should be able to get this bent up without too much trouble.

I'm also currently doing a prototype LED version of the RHS tail light that should do away with the entire light body so only the lens is left with a flat sealed metal plate as a backing. This should hinge nicely.

Will update further as it comes along. Cheers

Damien, when you say " get the PVC bent up " do you mean 1 piece - no joins.?

Hi Dave, the piping will be 50mm steel tubing (I just used the PVC for assessing) and i want to bend up a single section for the run under the body. I believe i can get away with 2 - 3 sections, the first will be the fill neck which should drop down from the tail light recess and pop out of the body above the chassis. The second section will be the piece represented by the PVC in the picture and if fitting gets a little tricky, i can cut this into a third section but i'm hoping i don't have to.
