What are the next collectables? What should we keeping?

Our Monaro has leather and so does our new VF Calais V and everytime I hop in on hot day, burn my arse I swear they are one of the dumbest ideas.
It's not real leather anyway. Compared with my Jag it comes across as that PU Leather treated within an inch of it's life. What do they call it... Pleather?
As you say Rob it wears badly and looks tatty very fast. I have cloth in my VY SS Ute/Van and it will be staying that way even if it shares the same wear issues where you slide your arse in an out!

As for collectables. Optioned up low production cars like a VF Calais V with V8 pack, brembo's etc "should" be a good investment. They are a lot rarer than any SSV, Redline, Clubby etc.
Unfortunately ours is a shopping trolley V6 etc and will be ditched after 3 years.

Yeah cheap leather doesn't last. It's a thin layer laminated to a backing. It just peels off. Real leather will crack over time but not de-laminate.
i think if Holden let the Commodore finish with a special of some sort then that will be collectable but otherwise I think that there won't be a huge desire for them. There is that many of them and they don't really have a cult following(current series that is).

I found it strange a higher level car such as a Clubsport has cloth where a lower level SS gets the leather treatment.

Appears to be robbing Peter to pay Paul in saving money to put towards other fancy bits on a Clubby but the Clubby is still the poor cousin to the GTS.
But I suppose they have to do something to drop the level away.

So yes, for me, that is the way I see a car as desirable and that's what we are being asked here, 'what are the next collectables...' and if that's why I do not include a Clubsport for having cloth as desirable, I'm just putting forward a reason why and if its only a small criticism on my behalf, so be it.

As for leather, it will always be a need for me where ever I can get it a new car. There you go we all have our different opinions on leather and I just think it is so much easier to keep clean especially with children, even if it is a fake leather, who cares.

I have VX/VY SS leather seats in my van, I purchased brand new through evilbay many years ago, my van is my daily drive and the only problem is the drivers right hand seat bolster looks wrinkled, I have no problems with the wear and tear of leather and like cloth, it will be determined on how you look after it. Any right hand bolster of any seat copping a hiding, cloth or leather is going to show wear after continual use.

Most stuff mentioned is fairly new, might take a while (longer than some of our lifetimes) to be truly collectable and appreciate in value.

What about VN sv5000? Or VS HSV Senator 215i with 6 speed manual? They are probably towards the bottom of the curve price wise and limited numbers built

In twenty years every Holden will be a collectable. There will be no more and so many are currently being scrapped that any survivors will be snapped up.

Look back 15 or 20 years.... a HQ was so worthless they made a cheap entry-level racing category out of them!
Now.... well I don't need to tell anyone reading this how collectable they are and consequently, what they are worth.

VT Commodores are currently at the bottom of the food chain..... just as the HQ was once. The VT is the best looking car that Holden has built since the HQ and has so many variations.... like the HSV models and SS with the last of the 5 litre and 1st of the LS1, so in my opinion it will be the big collectable of the future.

God, if a VL (the ugliest and crappiest with that Datsun motor) can get people paying 35 grand, then every Holden will have it's day.

GM will continue production of the Ute, Wagon and sedan right up until they close. There will be some up market specials and they know most will be bought and stored for the future.The Calais models may be left out of the mix as they are not as popular as others.There are no standard sized utes planned for imported builds.

If only Holden had built what people wanted hey. A 4WD commercial vehicle with a V8. A range of mid sized sedans with a 6 cylinder and V8 that didn't weigh close to two tonnes. If they had dropped the dinosaur engines from the US and run with the overhead cam version of our own V8....
Sadly Holden were just a shop front for GM in the end.
As for what's going to go up in value, are these stored final Commodores going to take twenty to thirty years to make a decent value? That would make most of the people on this forum between 70 and 90 years old. Just saying.

If by decent value you mean "anywhere remotely close to purchase price plus inflation" , then yes, 20 or 30 years at least. You'll get better value for money just driving it into the ground. None of these are worth "putting away".
