Interesting. Would this have been done because of the gas set up? 4 barrell?
Did the HZ 253's originally come with a 2 barrel carby?

Nah would have been a two barrell and I'd say the gas conversion called for its own type carby put a four barrell blue 253 carb on it.
Yes the carb on the car is a 4bbl. It is common with gas set up to use a the base plate from a known carby brand and have the aftermarket LPG carb fitted to it (the base) but with dual fuel typically you retain a petrol carb and feed the gas through the neck. The HZ 253 was a 2bbl Stromberg so the 4bbl is a modification and it's not what I would have expected to see. I.E: Rochester.
From what I can see I say it looks to be a Autolite or Motorcraft carb. It may even been a Carter but I think they had a bit more plastic showing. Either way my money is on a Ford carb based on the photo. Lift the lid and it will probably tell in writing somewhere.
