I don't think black is correct for the indicator stalk. I feel sure they were colour coded with the interior.

Ok now you have thrown a spanner in the works because like i said in an earlier post my trim i was told it was a mix of tan and buckskin
and im sure the indicator stalk was tan
bloody confused as now
someone sent me a copy of all the trim codes a while ago off the vin disc but i lost it
anybody got a copy they can email me for a 77HZ
I wouldn't get too wound up what colour you make it Gene. They have always been a high fail rate item (even from new) and at one stage in the mid 80's Bosch decided they were only going to make the earlier type replacement one (the Commodore one is different) in black only. So many cars/utes/vans etc will have a black one on a coloured steering column because of this reason (I couldn't ever begin to count how many I replaced while working at the Holden dealership I was at back then), that was until another aftermarket manufacturer took up making them in the range of colours again.
Usually column colour, but like you I have provision for/don't mind both colours. My HJ was never delivered with a combo switch (too early), however I have changed the ignition pot to a HX one and with it the combo switch as I was never in love with the dipper switch being on the floor in the early models and wanted it on the stalk. My colomn is black in a Gazelle interior, either colour combo switch works with the interior but black does look better.
Did you notice this one recently? Now not sure but that one looks to have had a brown column to me... The gear selector certainly was brown at one stage.
