All this talk on correct trim colours for 77 Sandman has got me thinking about mine; my '77 Sandman ute has 63V (buckskin trimcode) and has the black GTS wheel/horn pad with lion logo in the middle, black indicator stalk and black steering column shroud cover. The dash pad and glove box are both what I'd describe as tan in colour, somewhat darker than buckskin, that's for sure and pretty much the same colour as in Taily's photo a few posts above. The glovebox appears to be original and has the correct GM part number for 10cwt). Would 63V trimcode normally have the slightly darker crash pad and glovebox with the lighter-coloured seats, door trims, centre console etc, or has mine been changed at some stage?

Hi Kyuss, I ordered my Sandman from new in '77 with the Buckskin interior but the crash pad and glove box was the tan. The seats, headlining, sunvisors and centre console was Buckskin. Steering column, Steering Wheel and the combination stalk were all black so I would say yours has not been changed. What colour is your ute, my van is Persian Sand Mk 2 (Bronze/Brown with DY3 stripes). Cheers!

G'day HZSanFan, mine's meant to be atlantis blue with HZ DY4 stripes (white, mid blue, dark blue). It's 11/77 build with L32, M20. Making slow progress with some rust repairs etc but it'll get there. Glad to hear about the dash pad n glove box as mine look like they've been there for a looong time! Always great to hear about cars that people have complete history of. Unfortunately I was barely up to walking back in 77! Just remebered one more question - what colour is the metal section in front of your dash pad painted? Mine is the tan colour, similar to the dash pad so I don't think I need to paint it? Thanks in advance, Andy

63V Buckskin trim will have a Tan crash pad and glovebox, black steering column and indicator switch with Buckskin seats, door trims, console and carpet.

All M model Sandmans from late HJ on had a black steering column no matter what the trim code is.

Early HJ and all Kingswood HJ had coloured steering columns matching the crash pad colour.

HZ Sandman with 67V Tan trim showing black steering column.

Thanks Glacier, I try to help people out wherever I can but I can't help you in regard to finding out the crash pad and glove box colours 100%. My gut feeling would be that they were the Tan combination with the tan/brown carpet as when I ordered my car I only stipulated Buckskin interior colour. As mentioned before the crashpad, glovebox and carpet were the tan/brown colours when I took delivery of it. I ordered the Buckskin mainly due to the heat build up a black interior generates, Cheers

As I posted above is correct. Never rely on memory, I find it inaccurate, particularly if like me you have owned multiple cars of the same or similar model.... HQ, HJ, HX and HZ.

63V is Buckskin/Tan trim.... Early HZ
63C is Buckskin/Dark Buckskin trim.... Late HZ

    both have Buckskin carpet.

I reckon my tan and buckskin interiors get just as hot as my black ones. Probably hotter, cause the black is in a windowless van and the others are in sedans and wagons with twice the windows. Once those rays go through the glass, it's gonna get hot, no matter what.
