Yeah, I've got a few friends in Qld & rego up there is not much cheaper than NSW. Getting a green slip each year is not a PITA. Most workshops will treat regular customers kindly & it gets the slackers to actually fix their clunkers. Many of those are rust ridden heaps, with bald tyres & several lights out. If they didn't have annual inspections, the car fleet would be much worse than it is currently. What struck me recently was how harsh the roadworthy was in Qld. I got a friend a 6 year old Pajero thru an auction house in Sydney. It had 125,000 km on the clock & was a one owner in good shape with books & a good service history. We gave it the once over at work, it needed front pads & rotors, 2 tyres, 3 globes & a bit of minor stuff. This was a good late model clean car. They drove it around for 4 months or so & the owners got a transfer to Qld. It only had 2 months rego left, so they used that up & took it in for a roadworthy up there. They went to 3 places who wanted insane money to issue the roadworthy. One wanted all new suspension bushes front & rear @ around $3500, another one wanted to replace the front & rear brakes @ $2000 (remembering the front ones had only done around 8000 km). It all seemed a bit over the top to me. Is that normal up there ? Dr Terry
Like anywhere it can be a little bit of who you know and what you know.
I kind of think of the front suspension work as the " Roadworthy 2 step ", it seems to be an old chestnut up here, like I said, depends on who you know.
At the end of the day, he who owns the certificate book has the final say lol.
