That old chestnut. Most people don't know the difference between a factory option, a genuine dealer-fitted accessory, an aftermarket dealer-fitted accessory, an aftermarket 3rd party-fitted accessory & so on. As you say, to many people if it was in the car when it drove out of the dealership when the car was new, it was factory-fitted option. The one that defies definition is the XU-1 Sprintmaster alloy wheel. These were not fitted on the production line & therefore not mentioned on the production broadcast sheet, but where on the cars when they arrived at the dealership. How come ?? Well it appears because they were a last minute thing, most were fitted at the transport holding yards & some even came in the boot for the dealer to fit, so is that a factory-fitted alloy wheel ?
