When we moved to QLD ten year's ago I ran the rego on my car till within a couple of week's of expiry. I then took it to a workshop my nephew used, and it went through with no drama's. We have used the same workshop ever since, I have been advised that the power's that be will probably be introducing annual inspection's in the future.
Anytime I have been breath tested here, the officer has walked around the vehicle for a visual inspection.
