Probably helps hold the value of Landcruisers and Hiluxes too. No new model every year so they stay current for longer.

The WB run is difficult to measure. They were released in April 1980 & production ceased around Oct/Nov 1984 & the excess sold into 1985, but not actually replaced by another model. The question is when do you consider the WB to have ceased sales, I usually just call it Dec 1984, which makes it a 57 month model run. I guess many sold well into 1985, but that happens with most models.

That's what I was getting at with VS, they finished arould Jul- Sept 2000 but remained in both plant and dealer stock until 2001. Maybe a good measure of when a series is actually finished is when dealers are forced to register remaining stock as demos? I noticed that Nissan are still clearing 2011 plated ST-X and ST-X 550 Navaras as new cars but discounted. No series change here though. I guess the end of WB was a bit like the end of HZ passenger vehicles and the end of VS in some ways as either there was no replacement or the replacement was radically different.
I agree with wbute that the long run of Hilux probably drags up the value of 2005 examples but it also hurts new ones as 2nd hand units. If the new shape Hilux is any good the old ones will suffer badly especially if the news ones get decent engines.

Just bought a 2011 SR5 dual cab. Not many about in dealers yards.

Probably no-one is trading them as prices are too low! Hard to compete with $29990 driveaway for a dual cab 4x4 Triton or $37k for an ST Navara that is a rebadged $60000 ST-X from a few years earlier. Neither of these have the option of a better engine and box like the Hilux does but if you want a basic 4x4 ute with 5 year new car warranty that isn't a Great Wall the Triton is unbeatable.

Ugly buggers aren't they! But seriously. where we work we need utes. And for a new contract employee when you can offer them a 2WD Hilux dual cab or a 4x4 Triton dual cab the choice is easy. After depreciation and at the end of the contract they will sell easily for $15k so not a lot to lose.

Yeah they seem good. Sold my single cab that I had for 6 years. Never had any drama with it.

That looks newer than a 2011 model. My replacement one after the 2010 got written off was amongst the very last of the 2011 Hiluxes and it still had the older grille and the less ugly roll bar. Even had 15" rims still. That looks like a 2012 model, ie 17" wheels, stability control, different grille and lights. I think mine may even have been in the last lot of V6 and auto to leave Japan prior to the Tsunami in 2011. Next shipment to Thailand was apparantly destroyed.Minis 5/2011 build, 6/2011 Australian Compliance and 7/2011 first rego. After mine there was a delay of a few months before the 2012 models then appeared.

Rego plate looks 2012-ish too, mine was BWT-47x

I ended up buying a Powerful 4x4 front bar to get the front tow hitches as ARB don't do them anymore. Never did fit a tray though, cost always turned me off.
