    In our case either a late 60's tune Corvette L71 tri-power 427 (the L88 had alloy heads on an iron block, a solid cam but a 4 barrel carby) or an LS7 (genuine Chev crate motor 454/4 bolt mains - but very heavy - would have needed stiffer front springs to support its weight) would have been gold. The mid 70's versions of these engines were choked down considerably by pollution gear (would hardly pull the skin off a rice pudding, except for the ZLX which continued to the late 70's with an iron block/alloy heads 12+:1 comp and a massive solid cam) but later on in the mid 80's the 454 scored fuel injection/hardened valve seats for ULP if I remember rightly.



    These and a 12 bolt rear end. Turbo 400 was enough to handle them but as someone mentioned a 5 speed manual would have been nice. Problem is even now there are not many manual boxes that will live a long time behind some of these old torque monsters if used as they were designed to be.
