Yes I clearly see the point of cars as a passion/hobby. That's why I would prefer a factory 5 litre WB to a Sandman. Why did I race at Finke? Not to win that's for sure. Why do I hang on to my WB. Because I have heard the story a thousand times, I had a car years ago,wish I kept it. Luckily I have kept mine. Not because I think it will be worth money one day, because its good and I will never need to restore it. Because I like it.
The stupid thing is though, false values start to effect what cars survive. HX Sandman for example. No different in any real way to a HJ or HZ. Media hype from 30 years ago and people still cling to what was said then. Come on, less power??? Who would rebuild a motor to factory specs today or ever really? So it's declared they are worth 5 to 8k less than a HZ. RTS? That goes out the window as soon as the HZ is lowered or you fit bigger tyres.
