I can only assume because of the radically different engine to the red L32/L33 as they had a 4BBL valley and carby. I assume L35 was for the low comp 4.2 if it was used for export at all in WB. Also assuming L34 was used for the low compression 308 in Bedford and hence why L35 was used first for the low comp 4.2L engine in Bedford as both of these existed prior to VC or WB.
3.3HC changed to L14 as well, not sure why the 3.3LC stayed as L23 or why the 2.85HC stayed as LD1 but the 2.85LC changed from L21 to LD2.
