I know, but there is some stuff which you'd be wise to do that is not covered which as wbute says is worth it. As I said it isn't a lot of money extra but it does close the gap. Plus the fixed price servicing only runs for 6 x 6 monthly services, after that diesels are deraer. For me a petrol uses about $450 inc GST more fuel pa than a diesel, so add on another say $150-$200 in diesel servicing and your advantage shrinks a lot.

I just looked at both SR and SR5 extra cab and they are manual only so not an option.

No, not on extra cab 4x4 in SR or SR5. Ford and Mazda are the same. When I looked at an extra cab BT-50 old shape before I bought my Hilux you had to go up to an SDX xtra cab for an auto.

Other left field option open now is an SR dual cab-chassis auto. I went for the SR5 originally for all the airbags and ABS but all that is standard on SR's now. The tray is small but at least it is a useable tray, and they are under $40k driveaway.

1700mm tray is standard ish on a dual cab.

What's the reason they don't fit auto to extra cabs?

No idea. I tried to buy a V6 auto when I bought mine but they were manual only then too.

The ute tub on a dual cab is 1500mm. Then add the big chrome bumper on to that its over 1700mm long. Trays are going to be the same length. 1700mm was the length Dubbo City Toyota quoted when I priced a new Hilux a few months ago. That was not a Toyota or crap alloy tray.

The tray on my single cab was 2430mm. Just happened to measure it up so I can build a tray for this ute I have now.

I also just noticed today that all Hiluxes now have full black trim, and it isn't pretty. Real in your face black everywhere including carpet/mats. I'm actually looking at a few 9/2013 plated single cab SR's that still have the grey trim, registered a month ago as demos. They have the 5spd autos in them but the same build date dual cab SR's are still 4spds.

Pity Volkswagen don't put a big motor in the Amarok. Price would be high if they did though.
