assuming you buy it and restore it... the way i look at it is if you were a buyer would you be happy paying $40,000 for a 'Sandman' if the only thing you can hang your hat on are some internal welded on brackets and strips?

wait for a good brissy XX7 stamp or HX M70 with 18V. That way there's no uncertainty

Perhaps, you phrased that a little casually Matt. Did you mean that it has console mounts that as far as you can tell are factory, rather than console mounts that "look factory"?

Perhaps you could put up a photo of the console mount - if you have time to do so before you commit? Maybe also of the headlining strip at the rear if you can take the pic easily. I'm not an expert by any means on identification, but a pic of these areas may help those that are, to advise you better.

I understand what you guys are both saying. The vehicle is located a few hours away and have only seen a small console pic myself so hard to tell. Plus what the owner told me himself. When I go back for a second veiwing ill be sure to check out closely.
I think the price i will be paying is fair for what it is as it is a windowless example. Would just be a bonus if it was a sandman.
