I should be able to get around that because I'll only be using the lower inch (or less) of the original VN covers to make the adaptor plate, then fabbing a mating surface onto it to suit the early covers and using countersunk machine screws to ensure a flat mating surface underneath the tin covers. I can actually see how I'll do it, but can also see how this might be very much easier to get cut out of a piece of billet instead.
