Good read here about forming a club. Might be out of date, but worth reading nonetheless.

2/ As of the 1st of September ALL cars will require a Roadworthy to get Club Plates.

3/ Cars already on it are on it without a prob as long as they aren't crazy modified stuff.
There is no annual roadworthy.... Or any need for one at renewal time. Roadworthy's are only need for any new cars going on the scheme.
Cars already on the H plate and deemed to be heavily modded will be required to change to an M plate, and that means a roadworthy tho, as they should not be on H plates to begin with.
The changes are set for Sept 1 at this stage.

Looks like i'll be going for 'M' plates
I have heard on the grapevine that the club permit scheme is costing vicroads millions and their spuin a bit about it. I dont know how they necessarily work that out though, as many of these cars wouldnt be registered or on the road at all. You certainly see heaps more old school cars around the roads these days which is great.

Those changes to the system sound fairly reasonable though I reckon. I suppose they could have made it much worse. A full roadworthy is a pain though, as that has been made really strict these days and every tiny little niggly thing is an issue. I better get the torana on the road soon then!!

Good to see ya the other day by the way!

Vicroads must be keeping that low key.

I don't think its unreasonable either. Kinda keeps owners more honest regarding maintenance and upkeep. It will quickly weed out the cowboys.

Was really cool to finally chat to ya. Funny how it was all capri and torana talk Would be cool to have a longer chat next time

I cant help posting this, something is erking me, I like this site and forum, I wonder if an associated club could mess with it.... What about though a Kingswood club... generic, all models accepted? If it's real purpose is just for rego, well everything that approximates H to W shape could be accepted? State govts could be approached on a psychologically easier level of confidence (what ever went wrong with the Kingswood - eg and arguably more understandable to govt).

I dunno, Im prepared to be run around (but not out of) town, but just sayin, what are we messin with here? Who's got time to be genuinely dedicated to two (or more) clubs at once? I think this is an excellent website and forum, and politely, I think it would be a shame if its input became diluted because members joined a second national sandman group. Surely, this group is pretty premiere? (or Premier - pardon the obvious pun lol).
    Anyways just sayin.

Some valid thoughts there mate, and that's exactly what's needed when discussing these things. Both sides of the table. Cheers

I was thinking the same as SLR Dave.

I am not into car clubs myself but they do have their place. Just not for me. I just prefer to spend that little extra and have full rego so I can come and go as I please and not answer to anyone about when and where I drive my cars.

    Other thoughts:

Owners of a Sandman vehicle in the club. What happens when that person, being a financial member loses their Sandman? Do they get the flick because they no longer have a Sandman in their possession by virtue of: vehicle stolen, confiscated (heaven forbid), destroyed in a collision, sold due to personal circumstances.

Could be embarrassing if the Secretary, President or Vice President does not have an item which actually allows them to be a part of the club, or any member for that matter.

The first thing to do is get permission to use the sandman name and logo.
    Holden own it.
Once you have their go ahead you can form a club and look at "Club Member only" merchandise.
and maybe its changed but you need to have regular minuted meetings.
And you need to incorpoate the name and get INSURANCE.

    Nice one Dave.

All this chatting is basically throwing hypotheticals out there and gauging interest. And its been some of the best discussion i think the forum has seen. Everyone is being polite, helpful and genuine in their opinions. Everyone that has put 2 cents in, has made quality points. So cheers to everyone

Maybe if everyone just put in point form what they would actually like the 'club' to be and what benefits they want to get out of it, could be a way of saving time...whether or not this will go ahead. Dunno, cant hurt to try i guess.

I assumed (could be wrong) that the general consensus was have the club available to everyone and anyone interested. It covers people who have a sandman and other vehicles.

I believe Blocker has a great relationship with Holden.....i dont think the permission will be a problem. Particularly if the club is interlinked with the forum. Whether or not people want the club to be interlinked here is another matter.

    Everyone loves merch

Yep, i think meetings are monthly or 3 monthly.

Insurance is another thing to look into.

Honestly at the end of the day, i just want to have cruise nights with other vans and it bring family orientated so the kids can happily come along ...not too fussed about much else. I know i dont need a club to do that...but the topic has started and lets see where it goes. Also, i'm a big fan of doing shows or events for charities.....many underprivileged kids out there that can use a helping hand. If we can pull something like that off, thats enough for me

Ok guy's it's me again, I know by the above post i'm coming at this from a complete different angle being that I have been trying to establish how to actually get a club off the ground
Well good news I got in contact to day with the Association of Motoring Clubs Inc www.aomc.asn.au Ian was a great help, He told me you have to apply to be Incorporated via Consumer affairs http://www.consumer.vic.gov.au/clubs...ot-for-profits and this by applying to be "Inc'd" then by being accepted thus gives you the Club name, so remember I said "you can't do this till you have that" well bugger me the first two go together .

Now I have to hold a meeting with my "proposed" members giving them 21 days notice of the meeting that the agenda is A vote to agree to become Inc'd.. and so on and so forth...

For you not from Vic I assume your state must have the same basics just the wording may differ (I think). any how thats my 2cent's for that side of things, now we can get back to kicking the can around re; the nitty gritty of what Proposed members of the Sandman Car Club may like or dislike let's be civil and remember if you don't like any thing about it you don't have to have it.
"That's more like having my $2 worth"
