My take on the club permit discussion is that if a member has a van on a club permit, and wants to get a permit for other cars that they own which may not be vans, then it seems crazy that they should have to join separate clubs for each make or style of car.
I, for example, have my Van, 3x Toranas, a HJ Ute, a Valiant wagon, and a couple of others in the pipeline. The Valiant is currently on historic rego in NSW with my local Historic Car Club. The Van would be no problem to put on historic rego as would one of my Toranas, but the other 2 Toranas and the Ute would be looked at by the club as "Street Machines" because they differ from standard. So to get permits for them I would have to join a Torana club and one that caters for Utes. The club has a lot of elderly members that think mag wheels are a major modification! My Wife and I are both over 50 and are still among the youngest club members. We don't have very much in common with most of the other members and rarely go to meetings or runs. We are in the club because we need the club rego, not because we want to hang out with a bunch of blokes with Morgans, Simcas, Jaguars, MGs, etc....... We would love to be in a club with members with the same interests as us, not several clubs just to get club rego.
I see no problem with genuine Van enthusiast members that have other cars also having those cars on rego in the one club.
I've been involved in a lot of clubs (sporting, golf, car, van...) in my life and have found that the good, successful clubs are the ones that focus on the members, NOT the object. People are what makes a club, NOT the car. The car (van) is just the thing in common.
