Maybe if everyone just put in point form what they would actually like the 'club' to be and what benefits they want to get out of it, could be a way of saving time...whether or not this will go ahead. Dunno, cant hurt to try i guess.

I assumed (could be wrong) that the general consensus was have the club available to everyone and anyone interested. It covers people who have a sandman and other vehicles.

I think it moved over from being solely Sandman owners in the beginning of the thread to discussions on allowing others in on it.
Just my observation, if it does turn into a Sandman owners only club.

Yeah there's some 'formalities' with running an incorporated body, but nothing too onerous if its relatively small. Each state has different rules for incorporated associations. If it were 'The Sandman Club' incorporated in Vic, there may be some dramas with the other state rego bodies recognising it for club rego. Having said that, it may not be a drama as there are other car clubs that are on the various state club permit lists. Such as ASRF (Australian Street Rod Federation) which was incorporated in South Australia according to an ASIC search, but I'm fairly sure their HQ is in Burleigh, QLd.

Establishing a constitution (there's some 'off the shelf' versions), appointing founding office bearers, general meetings (could be quarterly) and having AGM's are the formalities but not too daunting.

I had a quick look ate couple of other model specific clubs - Monaro and GT club to see what their ownership rules are, they vary. The GT club is for GT owners only, looks like they have had previous owners that no longer have their vehicles any longer which ar still recognised as 'associate members' - looks like this is being reviewed but the associates don't have voting rights. Looks like they have some merch for members, attract sponsors and have discounts from suppliers for members - members incentives!

Similarly the Monaro Clubs (looked at Vic and Qld)have affiliate members which is open to all GM vehicle owners. They allow new members with monaros on club permit from day one, but if you have another GM vehicle that qualifies, you must be a member for 12 months first before the club signs off on permit application. Stops the ones just after cheap permit hat don't have a genuine interest in the club. Affiliate members still have voting rights.

I like the idea that anybody interested in Sandman's could be a member - owners of anytype of vehicle or no vehicle at all (kids, families - succession in the Sandman movement) But think that there should be some form of club restriction on permit eligibity. Don't know if someone driving around in a gogo mobile or a old Cortina under club permit approved by a Sandman club would sit right with me.... That may be contraversial but think here needs to be a line there, somewhere...

Thanks for the research Jeza. All this info will help us make whatever decisions that need to be made a lot easier.

My take on the club permit discussion is that if a member has a van on a club permit, and wants to get a permit for other cars that they own which may not be vans, then it seems crazy that they should have to join separate clubs for each make or style of car.

I, for example, have my Van, 3x Toranas, a HJ Ute, a Valiant wagon, and a couple of others in the pipeline. The Valiant is currently on historic rego in NSW with my local Historic Car Club. The Van would be no problem to put on historic rego as would one of my Toranas, but the other 2 Toranas and the Ute would be looked at by the club as "Street Machines" because they differ from standard. So to get permits for them I would have to join a Torana club and one that caters for Utes. The club has a lot of elderly members that think mag wheels are a major modification! My Wife and I are both over 50 and are still among the youngest club members. We don't have very much in common with most of the other members and rarely go to meetings or runs. We are in the club because we need the club rego, not because we want to hang out with a bunch of blokes with Morgans, Simcas, Jaguars, MGs, etc....... We would love to be in a club with members with the same interests as us, not several clubs just to get club rego.

I see no problem with genuine Van enthusiast members that have other cars also having those cars on rego in the one club.

I've been involved in a lot of clubs (sporting, golf, car, van...) in my life and have found that the good, successful clubs are the ones that focus on the members, NOT the object. People are what makes a club, NOT the car. The car (van) is just the thing in common.

These are all excellent idea's that are being passed around. I have no older vehicle's, but have alway's maintained an interest in van's and ute's and steel bumpered vehicle's in general, regardless of make. So I guess this would put me into the "associate member" bracket, if I was to join the club.

@ Maysik...it will be what people will want it to be. Being a moderator has no bearing on what this will become. Thats up to you guys....everyones opinion is as valid as the next.

@ Robbo... I have the same frame of mind when it comes to car preference. Not interested in anything plastic at all. Another 'associate member' here. I'll be needing club rego at some point, would be pretty cool if i could get that from the Sandman club.

That said....with this, im going to say right up front, i dont have the time to facilitate or organise things for the club. With work, family,music and my own van...i just dont have the time.....but willing to help where i can. I would like to see it come to fruition though.
How about if i turn this thread into a poll and people can vote as they please? Doesnt take much, just an idea. Maybe suggestions like...
-Sandman owners only
-All H-W series Holdens
-Anything and everything with the main focus on Sandmans

This may narrow down what people want from the club. Any other suggestions let us know and i can add it to the poll.

Yes, for sure. Totally agree, people vote in clubs.

Yes, agree nor should it be a factor. Not sure about this one. Didn't mention 'moderator', however if what I wrote insinuated that, I did not mean for it come across this way.

Got to agree with Rob, I haven't found much in common with most people in the various car clubs I have been in. Met a few mates though over the years and we've ended up setting up our own club to deal with rego and be able to use our cars together legally outside of our various other clubs runs. Its a little administration but easy enough and cheap and no hosers or the politics including who to give letters to which I have seen in other clubs, theres no easy answer and it needs to be consistent as the clubs need to be administrated appropriately. Good luck.

The main thing is to have opportunities to use the cars the way I see it.
