I didn't mean we should call the club "Fans of Sandman", just that the general feel of the club should be casual rather than specific. Some clubs are so specific that they scare away potential members.
For example, if it is called "Sandman Owners Club", then anyone that does not have a Sandman will be turned off from joining. I'm not welcome then (at the moment anyway), but as soon as I buy one (in any condition?) I'm in?
You could end up with a bunch of members with rust buckets or old wrecks and a set of tags, rather than the enthusiasts that a club needs. Those enthusiasts are the people that really want one but for whatever reason haven't got one yet. Being in a club is the best way of achieving that goal.
