I have seen a lot of ordinary work done on cars by do it yourselfers. My problem is I'm a builder and I was bought up with a carpenter doing the carpentry, a plumber doing the plumbing, a tiler doing the tiling, an electrition doing the electrical, etc etc. I only do what I'm qualified and licenced to do. How does this theory work in the car restoration business?
Not after an argument, just interested in some thoughts. After all they do end up on the road.

A lot of the time the basics can be done by owners or as some of us do barter the work I'm a mechanic so I do jobs for mates who panel beat or paint because it's so dear do just pay

Why on earth would you paint a jade green van white. mattmachxvan nobody told you why your van is a deffo sandman, it's because of xx7 on the tag no dispute as it was an id only on Brissy built sandmans , and would have made the whole identification of sandmans easier if they did this in all plants.

The best place to start would be a donor HX Monaro. Point taken Dave about using the correct tradies to do the work on your car before you throw it down the road at 100 kph. You wouldn't attempt a home made boob job on your wife.

Yes, sometimes I wonder about the 'mindset' I had drummed into me as an apprentice. The workmanship I see around the place it seems a lot less stressful to have no professionalism. The old saying 'the painter will fix it."

What would happen if your did unqualified mechanical work on a restoration and faulty workmanship caused an accident which killed someone and a lawyer for the victim had you on the stand in court.?? Wonder what the defendants 'mindset' would be about that.

Valid point, but I have grown up doing my own work. HQ-WB's aren't that complicated. If in doubt, I'll send it to a pro. I'm not a panel beater, spray painter or trimmer, but I'd have a red hot go at the rest of the work. Even if you can do a bit yourself you're saving money getting prep done etc. As some people don't have the skill to do a resto, others don't have the coin to shell out $40,000 for a car that gets driven Sundays in summer time.

Well we too are carpenters. Adam does all our panel work. He also does a lot of scaffold deliveries we know when we can't do something. Motors and interior yes but paint and panel, leave it to these who know what they are doing

NO.... That is a standard HZ dash and instruments.

All Sandman vehicles came out standard with GTS dash and instrumentation.
