Don't feel too bad Wombat. Sounds like going rates depending what they did. I paid about 3000 (3 years ago) for machine work (bore, deck and crank) new pistons to suit rebore fitted to rods, new cam bearings installed, other bearings, rings, double chain, gaskets supplied new and I fitted all back together myself. That didn't include head work (another 900 with unleaded seats/oversize valves)
