    Unhappy Paint over powdwercoating?

    I have a set of 8" wide GTS wheels that I bought recently from Taily (thanks Mate), and have had them sandblasted and powdercoated at a local place.

    I spent ages picking the silver colour that I thought looked as close to original and was pretty sure I got it right.

    I picked them up yesterday and they've done a great job.....they look like new.....except they are not even close to the right colour. They look like the "colourbond" colour "shale grey". I'm so disappointed as I wanted a nice strong durable finish.

    I paid a lot to have them done but there is no way I'm wasting a masking kit on them and spraying the insides so I'm thinking about painting them silver myself, then doing the masking and inside colour.

    My questions to those of you that may have experience painting are;

    Can I paint straight over powdercoating?

    If so, what type of prep work and what type of paint is best?

    I'm pretty handy with a spraygun (or cans), but am worried about the silver not adhering well and peeling off when I remove the masking kit.

    Enamel or acrylic? Any other tips?

    No idea big fella. I would think you could rough up the surface and use standard practice. But I'm not a painter. Maybe approach the powder coating guys explain it's not the same colour and see if they will meet you halfway? Always disappointing when it doesn't work out right but keep your chin up it'll come Good. Cheers

    I told the powdercoating bloke that I didn't think that was the colour I chose, but he insisted it was. It sure didn't look like the sample I looked at when I decided.
    He said to me "If you aren't happy, let me know".
    I thought " Can't you tell I'm not happy?"

    These wheels are going to end up costing me more than a new set..... I just priced 4 centre caps on Rare Spares and they will set me back $266.00 plus postage. Then there's the trim rings, the masking kit........ They are going to be over $1,400.00 before I buy tyres! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!

    Oh yeah... I love the new avatar Burd!
