I want to share the upcoming car A/V technology push, that will be seen in late 2014 and 2015 across new vehicles and after market car audio systems. This is Google and Apple entering the car market to provide extended technology, services, media and connectivity to the driver using head unit screens, vehicle controls, mobile data and other vehicle and phone hardware.
What does everyone think of this wave of technology hitting car audio systems (factory and after market)?
Check out some links here-

Thoughts?
I enjoy technology, all these things are already possible with a blue tooth connection in my car, especially the android system.
Just marketing, they get to use your information eg, where you travel, where you fuel, eat, sleep and aim specific products at you which I already detest so yeah, I get it and not against it but its not for me.
Car manufacturers getting a kick back?
just my opinion lol
Not particularly fussed on the tech. I still run a CD only Rockford Deadhead in the daily. Back on topic, I'm building some fibreglass kicks for a client's HJ ute ATM, I'll get some photos up when they're done
Sounds good prophecyaudio. The kick panels should be the same for HQ - WB i think, so the pics should interest a wide audience.
In regards to the technology, i used to be the same. As a 70's child and 80's teenager i still get excited by tape decks with auto reverse, but nowadays i cant fight the services that are coming at me. Only a year ago i was scoffing at paying monthly subscriptions for music streaming, but now i'm sold on Google Music All Access. I think its inevitable.
Cheers and BTW, welcome to MySandman
Might be a tad off topic (ie not talking about a serious dollar unit) but looking around for a 2xDIN head unit to replace a standard Holden unit in a LX8 Adventra.
Nothing mega dollar/show winning sorta stuff. More looking for ease of patching into the OEM harness (SW controls, driving the OEM sub etc), hands-free phone integration, maybe DVD/vid playback for a pair of remote screens for the kids etc... Have noticed the original premium sound doesn't quite have the frequency response I would have hoped which is probably more to do with the speakers I realise (it would have been the ducks nuts in 2004)and in this day and age phone pairing is a must have.
What sort of reasonably priced head units would be worth looking at? Was hoping to spend around a grand or so upgrading the unit and maybe a couple of the speakers.
Nunc est bibendum...
Integration with the steering wheel controls is simple now, there's plug and play adaptors from Aerpro. The factory sub may be an issue - haven't wired one into a LX before.

Pioneer/JVC/Kenwood/Alpine/Sony/Blaupunkt will all do something between 500 and a grand to suit.
I'm currently circling the Alpine ICS-X7 as my double din head unit for the panel van. This looks like best value for money to me at the moment.
