RAEME, i like your idea of a swing down. You might be able to couple it to the original wind down concept using a handle and perhaps fitted with an optional motorised system if you want.

A quick update from today, the panel shop have primer all over now. All panels are going back on so they can commence 'blocking' to see if all lines and panels can achieve good straightness. If all goes well then apparently we can avoid 'high filling?'. It will then get another primer applied which i'm told allows the base paint coat to stick.
