Hey everyone. So its Friday night and I've had the week off between Easter and ANZAC day this year. Things seemed under control on the house project front, so i ended up in the garage looking at the panel van. Before i knew it, i was knee deep in electrics so thought i'd give an update on this tonight.
Firstly, its important to say that during the dark days of Covid lock downs and working from home, I did too much web surfing about fancy car stuff...and ended up scrapping ALL of the Holden EFI system including computer and all engine wiring...in favour of a Haltech Elite 2500 with the lot. So lets start there...I'm now wading into a wiring job to marry the Haltech to the 355 to the 4L60E to the WB stato to the digital gauges to the weird nightclub stuff in my head...

Seems like i'm on a roll tonight so lets go again...
One of the things I learnt about the Haltech computer system is that it can talk to a few other OEM's via Can-bus. One of those is GaugeART who seem to have a commercial relationship with Haltech. Anyway, long story short, i purchased a custom GaugeART dash gauge and set about altering my WB centre instrument cluster. Verdict? I'm very happy... Let's check out the pics again...

Haha, yeah i do like to keep a regular supply of Bourbon nearby when on holidays, but its generally only open after 5pm...otherwise I'd finish it off before the night is done...
Well, its another Saturday and my panel van mojo is still going good. Spent part of today temporarily fitting my actual inner guards to get some holes cut and bits mounted. Today was drivers side PS pump...
I guess a lot of project car owners have trodden down this Astra pump pathway before and the installation is well known, but i was excited to get it fitted up so i can wire it in and connect hydraulics etc.
I decided to make the Astra pump a plug and play unit by using an Anderson plug for power and a Weatherpack connector for triggers. Interestingly, my research tells me that connecting the small Black wire to ignition and the small Blue/White wire to the alternator output (staggered 12V inputs) will make the pump spin up much faster than connecting both of these wires to simultaneous ignition, so that's what i'm gonna do...Wanna see some pics?

Now I just have to mock up a right angle bracket to bolt it to the 3 x bumper bar bolts and then get a shop to make it up. I'm happy about today's efforts, time for a little session...
Hi Damian, the Astra pump on start up go to full speed then slow down to a slower speed after around 3-4 seconds automatically. This is due to the pump building up internal accumulator pressure first. This is normal, I have never had a wiring diagram for this pump, but I think the alternator wire connection is so the pump isn't drawing any power on start up giving the starter motor the lion share of power.
