Thanks Robbo and Innuendo. Well today was D Day, the floor is now cut out and its going in. The tyre sample is from an 18 inch rim 245/40 so its about the biggest i could possibly run and I'm relieved to find it fits with plenty of room all round. There is no turning back now...
