    GTS mirror stems

    Can or has anybody had these rechromed and where they happy with the outcome
    i have a few but they all have a bit of pitting
    some worse than others can the pitting be removed

    They can be rechromed ,but most places wont guarantee them as they are die cast and con melt from
    the electrolises used in the chromeing process.

    Re-chroming diecast is a specialised process. The pits need to be filled with multiple dips in copper and polished until filled and then chromed plated.
    The result can look good initially but you can pretty much expect the pitting to return within 1 to 2 years of even loved/babied shed living with polish.

    If you can find better or new - go down that path.

    Gee thats great news so more or less once they are pitted really bad just turf them

    '50's heavies have the same problem. It is cheaper and easier to buy all new diecast for them.

    Don't forget that you have to remove the mirror
    to remove the whole stem
    Could even mean breaking the mirror and having to replace it

    I have some spare stems (both sections) will check their condition. Easiest way to get mirror glass off without damage is a Stanley knife blade and patience!
