jennie,it was byron who pointed these out to me a couple of months ago as he discovered referance to the spare wheel winch and gts wheels while researching for his book..this one was on the hj sandman ute chassis i have down the back..here is a couple of pics for you i just took comparing the 2 in a rim..go and try to get yours through the gts rim and you will see how difficult it is compared to the correct round one..

The round one is definately for the GTS rims - my ute had this until it got hacked years ago for LPG, should have thought to keep it.
One point though I always hang the wheel the other way ie: so the outer rim paint doesn't get hacked and it also hangs naturally that way.
There are three winch assemblies for commercial vehicles.
Standard wheel winch......... part No. 2819802 HQ - WB
Rally wheel winch............... part No. 9928754 HQ - HZ
Alloy wheel winch............... part No. 92009044 HZ after Dec 78
Rally and Alloy wheel winch plates are rare as for the reason OZ has stated...... the only difference between all of them is the mounting plate....
I am looking for an original Rally wheel mounting plate at the moment as I have a mate here who is a tool maker and is going to make the dye for me to press some up if I can find an original to use as a pattern.

3/77 HX Sandman Panelvan ... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell .. SOLD
Gee thats bad luck, not having one winch cup amongst 4 sandys.
I would be interested if theres anyone thinking of getting some made. At the stage Greg was talking about getting them done, he had a N.O.S. one, he may still have to get a copy off.
What about 3D printing? Is this something that could be worth having a go? Theres a question for the brains trust
Hi do you have a better photo of winch location and fittings wanting to put one back on my van
I just cut one out of a ute to fix my van. Ill post photos for you.
