    A Saginaw is really no stronger than a Aussie 3 or 4 Speed. You will be modifying the tunnel if you have the side mount mechanism.
    The shifter bend or spacer is just to centre the stick (above floor level). I wouldn't be using a Saginaw in a full size car with any grunt.

    Like James said ,there not a strong box
    And you will have to still cut the tunnel to clear the base of the shifter ,even though you can still get the stick in the middle...
