Ok here's one for all to look at. I took the heads off my other HZ sandman last week and found this. Any ideas on why anyone would do this.and what can I do to fix it as it is the original engine for the car.

Yeah. I spoke to my mechanic he said it might not make much difference as those two don't have a great tension on them. Just stage one 61 n/meters. But I'm not sure. As I want to save the engine.

My company uses HM Gem Engine Reconditioning for our Cummins 50ltr V16 blocks, and they are able to weld up areas of cast iron that have suffered damage. Speak to Albert in their Dandenong shop and i'm sure he can sort this out.

Interesting how the bolt holes look like they have been machined away. I wonder why?

Thanks! Can you pm me there details. It was done on both sides of the block. I was told maybe for clearance for a different intake manifold. But why is the question. I don't get it and have never seen it before.

They fill with oil then not cleaned out , hydraulic lock causes them to break out , I'd say someone has found this on a rebuild and cleaned it up as they can't be used and no bits of cast ends up in oil galleries . Later blocks don't have them.

That make sense now. So not to worry to much about it then?
