Is this a HJ Sandman Ute? Please Help...

    Hi All,

I have come across this HJ Holden Ute and I am unsure if it is a Sandman or not.

Any help identifying this vehicle would be appreciated.

    Holden HJ Ute

    Vin- 8N80RFH891562J
    Built- 6/76
    Chassis- BHJ 60370S
    GVW- 1860kg
    Seating Cap. 2
    Model- 8WN80JR
    Body-891562-S
    Trim-1918-60A
    Colour-567-17774 (Royal Plum Metallic)
    Driveline- L32-M20-GU4

Vehicle has been rebuilt and most things changed from original- ie is now painted yellow

    Thank you in advance.

It most likley is but you can't tell 100% certain off the ID plates. I'd give it about a 99% or higher chance, you weren't supposed to be able to order an A626/A627 colour chart HJ commercial in metallic unless it was a Sandman.

What a great car though, a HJ Kingswood Sandman ute in Royal Plum with Chamois/Black trim. It is the very first HJ Sandman I have recorded in that colour. If it was an L31 M41 car i'd be chasing you for it!

Thanks for the information HK1837, you are always helpful and knowledgeable. This ute appears to be in good condition, but it has been customised some what.

It is now 308 automatic but still has the console and floor shift hole still there, it is yellow now with no fluted guards and a frenched antenna hole etc.

I thought this one might be hard to identify without the original paperwork, but I will have a look behind some of the interior parts etc to see if I can spot any of the original colour. It is potentially on the market given there is interest (I do not own it, it is a work mates )

    Thanks again, Ben.

If it was a 308 car (even a manual) i'd buy it if it is in good cond, but I don't want a 253.

Not a bad price if it's as tidy as it looks. Would be better in its original colour of course.

For sure, I would like to take it on and restore it back to the way it was- but I have too many projects on the go at the moment. (and I have restored one Sandman van and built a replica ute already) The owner had no idea that it could possibly be a Sandman until I ran the numbers for him, he purchased it as just a tidy ute. Sandman or not, it is a nice ute.
