    Looking For My Old Van

    Hi Guys

My first post here. I just found this site after a conversation with my boss about old cars and we started looking at Sandman's, and I thought I'd do a search when I came across this site.

Currently I don't own a Sandman or any Holden. I do have cars from the Dark side I am still a fan. I have owned a few Holden's over the years and I still want to own another Sandman.

Anyway, way way back in 1988 I purchased a HX van which I was told was a Sandman by the owner. I just took it on face value as I was none the wiser. I never researched it, or looked into it any further. Resources are little easier to come by these days.

Anyway, she beared no significant markings of a Sandman as she had some major changesby the previous owners. It had been resprayed into a dark midnight blue. Flared guards, 8" wide wheels up front and 10" wide on the rear. 12 slotters. It had a commodore fibreglass bonnet and front nose and some modification on the original guards. The rear tailgate was a single piece of fibreglass with a big window. Very basic fit out of the back. Awesome at the drive in. I fell in love at first sight.

She had a GTS dash, sunroof, bucket seats, Vinyl roof, 4 speed manual and a 308 up front. Extractors and I think it was a 650 Holley. Full details I am a little hazy on as 1988 was a while back.

After I purchased the van I started to make changes. Replaced that fibreglass front with a premier front, added GTS guards and a steel bonnet. I left the rear flares on the van because of the rear wheels.

I've been on the hunt for the old girl ever since I sold it. I would really love to find it again, but sadly, don't have much information other than some old photos. I'll post some photos but I plan to scours the threads for any sign of her. Last I heard, it has been sold to someone in Adelaide. I have a feeling she no longer with us, and as we were halfway through a respray, I do not know what colour she became.

Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, forgive me for the switch to ford (Respectfully, I wont bore you with the details), but I hope one day to return to the fold.

Forgive the photos. These are scans. The first photo is one just after I bought her, and the others just as she was when sold.

    Cheers

    Dwayne

If you have some numbers off it I can see if I have come across it (engine or chassis numbers).

Unfortunately, I never thought to keep any of the particular details. I'm wondering whether I can contact the RTA and they can check their records. I might give them a call on Monday.

WB aside, a lot of other stuff is lining up. It's a contender.

Hard to tell but it looks like a H series front. it's not hard to bog side lights and fit WB tail lights.

With the van that Rodney put a pic up of, How much body filler would it take to cover the seam line from where the ute body meets the van shell ? I personally haven't seen that done before OR at least not noticed !!

Its a pretty skinny line. Wouldn't take a lot of filler. Or if you were real serious you could weld it.
