Have you read the book Skunkworks? written by Ben Rich....he took over from Kelly Johnson....what these guys accomplished was incredible. Slide rulers and drafting tables.....under budget, before the deadline and the remaining budget was returned to the contractor. Bought the titanium from the Russians under a psuedo company....so they could spy on the Russians. And every flight, the titanium retempers.....so basically it gets stronger after each flight!!!! To safe fuel in flight, the pilots would go full throttle as it saves fuel.......cant do that with an SS Commodore Highly recommend you read the book. Also covers the U2, F117 as well.
