    Changing Stud Pattern

I am wanting to change the stud pattern on my Commodore diff to Chev pattern to match the Jag front end on my 37 Dodge as I am wanting to purchase some new wheels which only come in either Chev or Ford stud pattern, is the easiest and only way to do by changing the rear axles and does anyone know where I can get this done or source the parts

When I built my 1936 ford pickup it had a torana front end and 9" rear. so I cut the studs off of the 9" welded the stud in on both sides ground it back and redrilled holden stud pattern. Just make sure you get good weld penetration, and try to drill the new holes in new spots. once done you would never know.

There was a company on EvilBay that had a bolt-on adaptor for this.
The holes in the adaptor fit your stud pattern and there were wheel studs built into the adaptor to suit another make of vehicles' rims.
There were quite a range of adaptors to suit Ford and others.

One of my mates has just used these adaptors converting his lc torana to hq stud pattern but they do bring the wheels 25 mm out more

    Your Holden imperial (Chev) pattern is 5 x 120.6mm (5 x 4.3/4")
Where as Commodore metric are 5 x 120mm
So 0.06 to 0.07 difference. Basically wheels fit, but you need to be aware that the stud patterns are in fact sightly different.
How you deal with this difference is something to give consideration.

Yeah, Why hasn't someone produced an offset stud to do that job?
As Innuendo said, the wheels fit (steel ones anyway), but the tapered seat of the nuts won't fully engage in the wheel meaning that tightening the wheel nuts to the correct torque is difficult.
I know a lot of people that have done it though.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Those wheel spacers might be illegal in most states.
Putting commodore wheels on hq pattern studs is a dangerous game.
Change the axles. There is only one way to modify cars. The safe way.

You used to be able to buy offset wheel studs for Ford axles" with 4.5" PCD. They were 1/2" to fit on the Ford axles but had a 7/16" thread exactly 1/8" offset so if you put them in one way you'd have a 4.75" PCD. Spin them all 180deg and you'd have a 4.25" PCD. You can't get them anymore though.

    There is another option.
convert to larger ford studs and have the shop drill the new holes in the original stud holes but offset enough to give the correct patern.
A bit fiddly but probably the cheapest and 1/2 studs have to be an upgrade on 7/16.
