Mate I had it at a friends 40th two weeks ago. Got up to mischief, slept in the back, and got woken at about 8am by three mates who still hadnt slept and were off their heads on acid. They jumped in the back and were carrying on like hilarious idiots. Then I foolishly let them direct me as i reversed out down a driveway. Naturally I wento of the concrete, then got bogged and had about 6 pissed guys pushing me out, then when i got traction I broke two wheel studs. I didnt notice until about 5 Ks away i heard a horrible clunk clunk... Had to leave it at the RACV depot 250ks from home, and get the train back. The towey and the mechanic loved it...

Shit happens, but I love an adventure.

Sorry, not tryin to thread steal. Just saying, that owning one of these is great so dont forget to enjoy them.

I have a small bicycle repair (and sales) business that I run from home. I'm in a small coastal town that has a huge tourist population on weekends and holidays and as the area is relatively flat, a lot of people get around on bikes. As this is my area of expertise I'm in a fortunate position.

I've seen a huge change in attitude in the past few years towards old bikes. A few years back it was tough to sell an old bike and everyone wanted new. Now the opposite is true and I'm getting pretty good prices for vintage bikes, even with a high amount of "patina". I also sell new bikes but keep the prices as low as possible, sometimes not much higher than a good vintage bike.

The point I'm making is that there does indeed seem to be a "bum for every seat", not just in the car sense. I have some customers that look at a new bike and just dismiss it immediately, wanting instead the "cool" vintage bike. I have others that look at the old bikes and say "but I can buy a brand new one for the same money!" I point out that they have a choice and so does everyone else.

We are all on this forum because we love Sandmans.

No two are exactly the same, in fact many are vastly different, but all are worth what someone will pay for them.

In the end, it doesn't really matter what they are worth as long as you love them.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

Couple of surface scratches from the branches... Ah well.

Two studs must have fractured when I got traction, and snapped off when I started driving. The mechanic reckons on a 35 year old car it was probably metal fatigue.
I replaced all the studs and will do the other wheels at some stage too. Probably a good heads up to everyone that this is something we kinda forget about. maybe replacing all the wheel studs is something to consider!

Then you can enjoy another 30 years of carefree motoring...

    hah. I love saying 'motoring'.

hahahh thats such a great pic. the blokes pushing sure do look drunk... hands/bums in the middle of the panels!!! ouch

i lost a wheel in my first ever van while driving down oxford st, leederville. 3 studs snapped off, other 2 were stripped. was funny at the time and still funny now watching my wheel overtake me and slap into someones front wall knocking a few bricks off!

It is a big jigsaw but the trouble with them if you go to that extreme is it like doing a jigsaw with at least 6-7 x pictures to follow: one for each of the different body and assembly plant combinations. Throw into that the evolution of processes and parts over time and you have a near impossible task! On the flip side it is very hard to prove that a certain item is wrong.
