A survivor doesn't have those issues. It's still in excellent/new condition. Unrestored.

Forgot to mention the survivor HQ sedan around the corner. In the one family since new. The daughter owns it, it is still on the road, dosn't have any rust, but there is not a strait panel on it, front screen has silicone all over it. [ water leaks] Factory paint & dents WOW. Yet to see a good survivor, one day maybe. They all need work & money spent.

Yeah that was meant to say "as new".

Yeah you can look at it like that. I have a 77 hilux that Dad bought new. Only 140000km on it. Never did a longer trip than 400km in its whole life. 130000km were on our farm. It's completely rooted. My WB has 260000km. No rust. Original paint. Excellent condition. Probably too many modifications to be a survivor. I know other members on here that do have true survivors though. So they are rare. They do exist though and when it all boils down to it, they are best maintained but not restored.

Agree to Disagree. They are out there but what defines them. I have another example of a HR sedan also in the one family, again the daughter owns it. Original paint, interior 8/10, its up on blocks in a shed with 30,000 miles. Original brake linings & 3 original tyres. Has no rust only surface rust near fuel filler. All auto fluids are hygroscopic they attract moisture. Survivor cars need work master & slave cyls will seize, fuel tanks will rust & rubber will perish. she wants 10,000 is this a survivor.

That HR sure sounds like a survivor in the way you have described it more so than the HQ you mentioned as the HQ sounds like it is very much battered and bruised though one could argue it is still a surviving original car sometimes its not so clear cut without seeing the car in the flesh, if they have been a one or two owner car and kept pretty much original thats a great start

HQ is on the road, HR is not needs & whatever for RWC & Rego. Survivor to me is on the road. The HR is a great car.
I feel at time we are too critical of peoples efforts in " restoring " their cars . Gen Y & whatever the next Gen is have not seen or know of most cars as we do. I would like to see something like classic car week where people drive their cars to work, school. etc. Go back in time. what a sight.

Survivor is a patented term in the USA. Have a read there. We may not totally agree but that is what they set up to preserve Corvettes for future reference, basically to stop people "ruining" cars by restoring them!

Its interesting the whole 'survivor' thing. Not the Eye of the tiger Survivor, the car one...

Ive got a V6 GT Capri that Im wondering what to do with. I know its a Ford but what do you guys reckon I should do? It still runs, and has only had 2 registered owners. Has a replacement engine, but the original engine is in the shed, and it is otherwise untouched. Pretty good for a 44 year old car so Im hesitant to restore it, as its only original once. Im considering putting the windscreen in and getting it roadworthied and on club rego and just taking it to car shows as is for a year or so before the resto. Might get the interior fixed a bit, but otherwise, maybe just show it off as a survivor.

What do you think I should do with it?
