It's a 6 cylinder van. Don't sink too much money into it doing a original restoration. Go for modified.

If that's the way to go WB, I do have a couple of spare V8's kicking around the joint. On that topic, would it be wrong of me to rebuild the ute to original, but chuck a worked small block Chev donk into it? I don't really know the "ins and outs" of what's acceptable or not in the world of Sandman yet.

Bloody oath. It is a 6cyl Sandman, no-one wanted them when new! A V8 conversion wouldn't reduce its value, but you won't easily get a HX registered with a SBC unless on LPG. You'd be better off sticking with a 308 or an injected 5L.

Thanks, I'll check out the Rego rules up here (NT) before I commit.

Umm, like I said, I'm new to this, I've had holden Utes, toners and even the odd "H" statesmans, for most of my younger life, pulled em apart, put em back together and kept em going, but I don't know how to find out if an engine No matches a body or chassis, point me in the right direction please.

No way of knowing if its the original engine unless you have the original purchase documents. You can make an educated guess but that's all.
