    This thingy-majig exhaust part.....??

    Hey gurus.

Putting the VH back together and as it was on gas, its missing a few carby/pollution parts.

So mainly, I need this pollution bit which goes on the exhaust. The pic below is of a spare one I found in the shed but I cant remember what car its off.

So my question is, was there much difference in these? My VH is a 308, and I can get one from my mechanic from his VH 253. Would they be the same or is there any difference?

Secondly my car has a HDT brock engine in it, the same as what was in the VC brocks? Did they have this bit of pollution gear, or did the HDT engines get around it somehow? Cos if not Ill have to sort out some spacers to go in there anyway so the exhaust can be bolted back together.. Hope that makes sense.

Here is the bit Im on about.. What the hell is this part called anyway!? Ha.. thanks.....

It looks like an EGR valve. If it is, it should be the same for 253 vs 308 as it would be fitted to a common factory exhaust manifold.

Don't you just throw them out and fit extractors? They are a horrible, useless, unreliable piece of rubbish that should never have been invented.
I've never refitted one to any car I've worked on, but if you really want to use one, a 253 or 308 one will be the same.
Vans.... This is the 2nd time round the block, 40 years later! talk about turning back the clock!

From memory it is there to block off one exhaust bank at idle and send the gasses across the inlet manifold to warm the engine up faster, If you open the throttle engine vacuum drops and the valve opens. I think it runs to an engine water thermal switch on the front of the manifold so once the engine reaches operating temperature it shuts off the vacuum to the switch. My guess is the person regoing it wouldn't know it wasn't there unless you make it obvious, so i'd get a new engine pipe made for that side. You'll need shorter exhaust manifold studs for that side.

It is called a "Valve and Actuator, switch - early fuel evaporation". Probably designed to get the inlet manifold hot fast so fuel doesn't condense.

Thanks guys. Byron I knew youd be all over that! You win a gold star sticker on your workbook.

I know theyre another bit of pollution crap but as i will be eventually selling the car, :-( I want to keep it factory so Ill put it back on, but probably wont connect it up as thatll probably be a pain in the arse... Then whoever buys it is welcome to turf it and put extractors on....
