I'm still considering an LS1 for the HK 307 GTS i'm working on. It is only about $5k for a fully Engineered and fabricated front crossmember with BMW rack and tubular A-arms with big brakes on it. This allows an LS1/2 to be slotted straight in with a rear hump sump. Stick on a Marks4WD flywheel and it replicates the back of a SBC, so Muncie and 12 bolt or 9" behind it. A good secondhand LS1 is about $2500 and will put out an easy 290kW with a simple tune. That is getting close to a real 400hp which i'd have to spend $10k or more to get reliably out of a carbied SBC and will use probably only 50% of the fuel to do it. So for the same sort of money after bits and Engineering I end up with a say 360hp HK GTS with big front brakes that easily gets 20+MPG and starts first go. Not a Chev engine I know, but at least was fitted to Chevs and Pontiacs and Monaros over here!
